D&W Attorneys Join Austin Bar Association Initiative to Help Bastrop Residents Impacted by Fire

Davis & Wilkerson attorneys Katy Andre and Jim Haley were among the first attorneys to arrive in Bastrop to help hundreds of residents displaced by the recent fire. And thanks to the Austin Bar Association they certainly weren’t the last.

The Austin Bar brought together hundreds of attorneys throughout Central Texas to help people, who had lost all or part of their home, with questions about insurance, utilities and what to do with all the other accounts.

Andre, who was recently named a shareholder at the firm, and Haley, special counsel, said the experience was very rewarding, not just for the residents, but for the attorneys.

“The Austin Bar Association has done an amazing job of reaching out to these people,” said Andre. “Among other things, the Bar set up a hotline that people can call into and get referred to lawyers, who are willing to give advice over the phone.”

Haley added that the ability to help others in need was very rewarding.

“There was so much pain and suffering with these fires,” said Haley. “I feel fortunate to be able to help these people in some small way.”
